Pleasant Time

I'm writing this post mostly to have a record of this for myself. Saturday night Daniel, MKC, and I went to the mall to give Joseph some time. We went to Pottery Barn Kids to turn in our list for the Summer Reading Challenge and choose our free book. Then, we went to Barnes and Noble to play with the trains. Finally we stopped by the play area inside the mall to run around a bit. There were lots of people everywhere because it was a weekend. We usually only go on weekdays when it's a little more manageable. We stayed for almost three hours, and Daniel was so, so pleasant. For the first time, he openly shared the trains at the train table. There were so many kids that he just had to share. A new kid would come up and ask for some trains, and Daniel would take one or two he was playing with and pass it to the kid. This is a big thing for us. Also, once, when there were four kids playing, Daniel said, "Anybody, may I have an engine please?" And one kids passed him an engine. It was so pleasant. MKC and I just sat in a chair the whole time and relaxed. It made me so happy. The whole three hours, he didn't put his hands on another kid or take something out of someone's hands once. We walked down to the fountain at the movie theater, and he talked about how he wanted to come there with Rita. We watched the juggler. Whenever it was time to transition to something else or to go home, he just came along with me. It was super. I want to record this day so I can always remember it. It was the most fun I've had with Daniel since MKC was born. I hope we can do it again soon.

Angie Doesn't Have a Brother

Our conversation in the van this afternoon (totally out of the blue and not connected to any previous discussion).
D: Angie doesn't have a brother.
B: Yes she does. Do you know who it is?
D: No....?
B: Dada! Dada is Angie's brother.
D: (thinking) But she's not close to him.
B: Well, they were close together when they were little. They lived in the same house with Rita and Pa Windell in Camden.
D: Now Dada lives in North Carolina with us and Angie lives in Tennessee. She is all alone.
B: No, Angie is not alone. She lives near Rita and Pa Windell and she has her husband, Chris, who lives in the house with her. She's not alone. And she has her dogs, cat, and bird.
D: (thinking longer).....Well, that's just silly!
