Why you not know any more whys?
Daniel started asking "Why????" several weeks ago. At first he would accept the first thing we said and go on to the next subject. As time goes on, he just continually asks why after each explanation. Finally, I just had to say, "That's all. I don't have any more explanations about that." That seemed to stop him for a few days. Then, he came up with a new comment- "Why you not know any more whys, Mama?"
Potty Learning
Daniel has been learning about the potty for at least five months, but he's been seriously practicing for the last week or so. I had small potties from Ikea around the house, but he was not interested very often. Two times he voluntarily tried the small potty. I thought he might be ready for serious action, but that was two months ago. Then, two weeks ago I found some potty seats that sit on top of the adult toilet at a yard sale. He was thrilled. We made a big deal out of it. We stocked the bathroom with snacks, water, and books, and we set up stools so he could do everything by himself. Daniel loves to be naked at home. I told him that if he could put his pee pee in the potty, then he coud be naked. That seemed to do the trick! He's been pee peeing at home, with only two accidents, since we started. Also, he's done several poopies on the potty. I don't know who is more surprised when it happens- him or me! At first, we had to sit on the potty a lllllooooonnnnngggg time. And once, he woke up at 2 am, and we sat on the potty until 3:30 before he was finished. Most of the time, though, it is really exciting. He knows when he has to go. He yells, "Pee pee!!!!!" And we all run into the potty. At first we were singing and dancing when he did it, but he quickly said, "No sing dat, Mama." And later, "No dance, Mama."
At the beginning, it made his kind of nervous to poop in the potty. Once he said, "Mama, my heart is beeping!"
Okay, ha, ha. While I'm typing this entry, we have company. We just went into the kitchen for a snack and Daniel wet all over the floor. So, make that THREE accidents since he's started using the potty. Still great.
It is interesting to see how he is learning and changing every day. And, it's nice to wash fewer diapers!
